Slope stabilization measures using soil nailing with gabion fascia was successfully executed by Maccaferri for a stretch length of 130m.

Perungalathur is a suburb located in the southern part of Chennai, known for its proximity to key industrial and IT hubs in the city. Shriram Properties & Infrastructure Private Limited wanted to develop an IT park in Phase II of the SEZ in Perungalathur. A topographic study revealed a requirement of cutting of the ground on the north-east side of the proposed site. Additionally, the site faced significant geotechnical challenges due to its hilly terrain and heavy monsoon rains. These conditions necessitated an effective slope stabilization solution to counter slope instability and ensure the safety of the infrastructure.

Maccaferri provided a composite solution that combined soil nailing with a Gabion fascia at the bottom part of the slope and a Terramesh reinforced soil wall system with Paralink monoaxial geogrid as the primary reinforcement at the top of the slope. The Terramesh System (TMS) is a modular system with a Gabion fascia and an integrated tail as secondary reinforcement. This flexible solution stabilized the slope and promoted erosion protection. A non-woven geotextile was installed as a filter media behind the TMS and Gabions, ensuring effective drainage and enhanced stability. Design of nails in nailing with gabion fascia system and reinforced soil structure are done with SLIDE and MacSTARS in house software respectively.
