Maccaferri Champions Safer Communities Through Smart Engineering Seminar with IEM Penang
Harnessing IoT and Innovation to Build a Disaster-Resilient Malaysia
Penang, 23 April 2025 — In a strategic collaboration to strengthen disaster resilience in Malaysia, Maccaferri Malaysia joined forces with the IEM Penang Chapter to host a technical seminar titled “Smart Engineering, Safer Communities.” Held as a half-day event, the session attracted 50 engineers from diverse geotechnical and civil engineering backgrounds, all eager to explore how technology can shape a safer future.
Addressing a Global Mandate with Local Action
The seminar was aligned with the United Nations’ Early Warnings for All initiative, which aims to ensure that every person on the planet is protected by an effective early warning system by 2027. As Malaysia continues to face increasing threats from landslides, debris flows, and severe weather, the event emphasized the urgent need to modernize disaster preparedness and response systems.
Participants examined current early warning infrastructure in Malaysia, identified existing gaps, and discussed how emerging technologies can close those gaps. The discussion highlighted the role of real-time data, IoT sensors, and automation in enhancing public safety and disaster management.
HELLOMAC: Revolutionizing Hazard Monitoring
A focal point of the seminar was the introduction of HELLOMAC, Maccaferri’s advanced platform for remote geohazard monitoring and early warning automation. Designed to detect critical environmental changes before disaster strikes, HELLOMAC leverages IoT devices, cloud connectivity, and intelligent alert systems to protect both lives and infrastructure.
The session was presented by Ir. Saiffuddin bin Sheafi, Technical Manager, and Mayank Batra, Business Development Manager, who provided technical insights and real-world examples of HELLOMAC deployments across challenging terrains.
Looking Ahead
This seminar underscored Maccaferri’s commitment to engineering innovation and community safety. By supporting national resilience strategies and global disaster risk reduction goals, we continue to equip professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to build a safer, more secure Malaysia.
