Revitalizing Pathein Military Airport: Pavement Rehabilitation Success
Innovative asphalt reinforcement extends the lifespan of Pathein Military Airport’s pavements, ensuring durability and operational efficiency in Ayeyarwady, Myanmar.
Ayeyarwady, Myanmar
The concrete pavement of the Pathein Military Airport, originally constructed with Portland cement concrete (PCC), showed significant signs of deterioration over time, including cracking and joint damage. Given its importance as a defense airbase, immediate remedial measures were critical.
To address these challenges, Maccaferri proposed the use of asphalt reinforcement. The solution involved installing MacGrid ARVG 10, a geogrid designed to strengthen the surface layer of the 100mm thick asphalt concrete pavement. This innovative reinforcement prevents surface cracking, ensures uniform construction joints, and redistributes stress concentrations effectively.
With high tensile strength and elasticity, MacGrid ARVG 10 significantly improves pavement durability, tripling its service life while maintaining structural integrity. The project stands as a testament to modern engineering solutions enhancing critical infrastructure.
