Safeguarding Moana Avenue: Advanced Rockfall Protection in Nelson
Innovative engineering meets stunning landscapes—discover how state-of-the-art safety measures are protecting infrastructure and ensuring safe passage in one of New Zealand's most scenic regions.
Nelson, New Zealand
Nestled on the South Island of New Zealand, the city of Nelson is renowned for its breathtaking natural landscapes, ranging from golden beaches to untouched forests and rugged mountains. Surrounded by hills on three sides, the city has seen significant development in its hilly regions, including the prestigious Moana Avenue.
To address the occasional rockfall along the roads of this luxurious property, a reliable safety solution was required to ensure the safe passage of traffic and protect nearby infrastructure. The Maccaferri RB35_Plus rockfall fence, a light and easy-to-install barrier certified under EAD 340059_00_0106, was selected for its low-energy capacity of up to 35kJ and its proven quality and performance.
The fence was designed by Beca, with installation carried out by Ground Anchor System as the specialist contractor, and Fulton Hogan serving as the main contractor. This collaborative effort has enhanced safety for the area’s residents and visitors.
