Maccaferri Philippines proudly took part in this year’s PHILCONSTRUCT Luzon TechnoForum, held on April 4, 2025 at the SMX Convention Center Clark, Pampanga. Organized by the Philippine Tunneling Society, the event featured a focused session titled “Tunneling Competency 2025”, gathering professionals and stakeholders from the infrastructure and tunneling sectors.

Representing Maccaferri was Mr. Ugo Castellotti, who delivered a compelling online presentation on “Safety and Innovation: Smart Solutions for Underground Constructions.”

Mr. Castellotti currently serves as Head of Specialty Business (ISEAP) at Maccaferri, where he is responsible for sourcing, developing, and scaling innovative and niche geotechnical solutions. His specialization includes solutions for the tunneling construction industry such as Fibreglass Reinforced Concrete, Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete, and Shotcrete, and Automated Tunnel Ribs for preliminary support.

In his presentation, he highlighted how Maccaferri’s comprehensive tunneling systems from face reinforcement and primary lining to waterproofing, drainage, protection, and final lining are engineered to perform under diverse geological conditions, ensuring both safety and long-term reliability.

Also representing Maccaferri was Mr. Shervin Peñero, Senior Business Development Engineer for Double Twist Solutions and Steel Fibers. He presented on “Steel Fiber Solutions for Segmental Tunnel Lining and Underground Shotcrete Solutions.”

His session emphasized the advantages of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) in tunnel applications, particularly in segmental linings and shotcrete systems. He discussed how SFRC enhances structural performance, increases crack resistance, and improves durability in underground environments, offering a more resilient and efficient alternative to conventional reinforcement systems.

Through their participation, Maccaferri reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable, innovative, and engineered geotechnical solutions that support the evolving needs of the Philippine tunneling and infrastructure sectors.
