BUSOL WATERSHED
Problem
Busol Watershed is located in Ambiong, Baguio City, Philippines. It is situated between Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet, and has a total area of 335 hectares. The area is consists of pine forests with a broken terrain of steeply sloping hillsides. It is the city’s biggest source of potable water, a fundamental need for the people and animals living in the area. However, the watershed is susceptible to falling rocks and surface erosion that will pollute the city’s water supply.
Solution
Maccaferri’s innovative complete system and environmentally friendly solution for rockfall mitigation and slope consolidation were used to protect the city’s water supply. Maccaferri’s Steelgrid® HR, a high resistance double twist mesh reinforced with high tensile steel cables, and MacMat®, a geomat of thick polyamide filaments, was used to strengthen and stabilize the unstable slopes, mitigating rockfall and surface erosion in the watershed. Steelgrid® HR and MacMat® are designed and tested in accordance with the highest standards to ensure optimal performance while remaining quick and simple to install. Over time, the slope will self-vegetate, leading to an aesthetically pleasing green facing that blends perfectly with nature.
