Maccaferri recently supplied prefilled CubiMac (gabion) units for a project in Luss, where highly restrictive access presented significant logistical challenges. These units facilitated the construction of a 28-metre-long, 1.5-metre-high gabion wall, providing an efficient and effective solution for the client. The installation site, located adjacent to a cottage with extremely limited access, required a carefully planned approach to material delivery and positioning. To address these constraints, prefilled CubiMac units were utilised, significantly reducing on-site assembly requirements and minimising installation time. By eliminating the need for labour-intensive on-site filling, these prefilled units accelerated the construction process while ensuring consistency in both structural integrity and aesthetic quality. The units were precisely lifted over the cottage and positioned using a crane, mitigating disruption to the surrounding environment.

A key challenge in the project was the crane operator’s lack of direct visibility to the installation area. To overcome this, the operator relied entirely on a skilled banksman/signaller, who provided precise guidance to ensure the safe and accurate placement of the CubiMac units.

Thanks to the seamless coordination between the crane operator, banksman, and installation team, the project was executed efficiently and successfully. The use of prefilled CubiMac units not only streamlined the process but also delivered a durable and visually appealing retaining solution. Their prefilled nature ensured immediate structural stability upon placement while minimising on-site disruption.
